Your Guide to Cooling & Calm
Elements: Fire + Water (together, they create steam)
Qualities: Hot · Sharp · Light · Oily · Spreading · Penetrating
Season: Summer
Time of Day: 10am–2pm & 10pm–2am (peak productivity & transformation)
Time of Life: ~30–60 (career, family, purpose — the doing years)
Pitta is the dosha of digestion, transformation, and inner fire. It governs how we metabolize food, thoughts, and emotions — transforming raw experience into clarity, purpose, and understanding. In the body, Pitta resides primarily in the small intestine, stomach, and eyes — the sites where things get "cooked" into what we need.
✦ When balanced: Pitta brings ambition, leadership, passion, motivation, organization, intelligence, courage, and the light of understanding.
✦ When imbalanced: Anger, irritability, judgment, inflammation, and a digestion that burns too hot emerge — like a wildfire that cannot be contained.
You can recognize Pitta within you whenever you feel passionate, motivated, and unstoppable — when you hyper-focus on a task and shut everything else out. Pitta types tend toward medium, athletic frames, warm skin, intense eyes, strong digestion, and a purposeful way of moving through the world. They organize their spaces with intention and speak quickly, directly, to the point.
"Like fire, Pitta transforms. Our practice is to find coolness within the heat."
If these symptoms feel familiar, your Pitta is calling for cooling, surrender, and ease.
✦ How You Eat Matters Just as Much as What You Eat ✦
◇ Make lunch your largest meal — 10am–2pm is Pitta time, when the sun and your digestive fire are at their peak
◇ Eat a substantial meal around noon — Pitta types need enough fuel at each sitting
◇ Eat three meals a day with no snacking — like the French, let digestion rest between meals
◇ Do not eat between 10pm–2am — this is when the body's "nighttime janitor" cleans and detoxifies
◇ Be in bed by 10 or 11pm — if still awake, you'll get a second wind and likely feel hungry
◇ Eat in a peaceful environment — take a deep breath after your last bite before moving on
◇ Drink room temperature beverages — never ice-cold
What: Rose water spray, rose tea, or rose-infused self-care
When: Throughout the day, especially when feeling heated or irritable
Tools: Pure rose water, dried rose petals, or rose essential oil (diluted)
1. Begin with intention — this is an act of self-love, not a task
2. Mist rose water on your face, neck, and wrists — feel the immediate cooling
3. Sip rose tea slowly — warm or room temperature, never iced
4. Pause and breathe — let the sweetness remind you that you are cared for
5. Use rose water before bed as part of your evening wind-down
6. Offer this practice to someone you love — highlight the beauty you see in them
"Rose does not force the fire to go out. It teaches the fire how to glow instead of burn."
The greatest gift you can give your Pitta is the gift of rhythm, rest, and the permission to not always be doing.
Your practice is not about pushing harder. It's about cooling down and letting go.
Dress in light, breathable, cooling fabrics
Seek shade, moonlight, and bodies of water
Use cooling oils — coconut, neem, or sunflower for self-massage
Avoid excessive sun exposure during peak heat
Release the need to control outcomes
Practice saying "good enough" instead of perfect
Build in unstructured play — laughter is Pitta medicine
Let others lead sometimes — you don't have to have the plan
Smell · Rose, sandalwood, jasmine, lavender, mint
Sound · Calm, sweet music — avoid harsh or aggressive tones
Sight · Cool colors, moonlight, natural beauty, art that soothes
Touch · Cool showers, coconut oil massage, soft fabrics
Meditation or quiet sitting — especially in nature
Highlight the beauty in people around you — elevate love over criticism
Limit multitasking — choose presence over productivity
Surround yourself with kind, easeful, non-competitive company
Practice forgiveness — for yourself and others
Your environment shapes your energy. Curate it with intention toward coolness and calm.

This is the wisdom of Ayurveda: we are constantly adjusting, recalibrating, returning to center.
You don't need to do everything at once. You don't need to be perfect.
Choose one or two practices that resonate with you and do them consistently, gently, devotedly. Small, cooling practices done regularly are far more powerful than dramatic changes you can't sustain.
Listen to your body.
Trust your inner wisdom.
Be endlessly gentle with yourself.
This is not a prescription. This is an invitation to soften the fire and come home to ease.
