If you're searching for the best yoga in Buffalo—not just the most convenient or the trendiest, but the kind that transforms how you inhabit your body and understand your practice—I believe I offer exactly that. My classes integrate clear alignment instruction, philosophical depth, and the kind of presence that invites you to truly arrive in your body.
Currently, you'll find me teaching at Flex Yoga Buffalo in Clarence—a space I love for its intimate setting, thoughtful design, and warm community. When you step into Flex, the city's momentum fades at the threshold. The warmth from infrared heating panels encourages you to soften, not to perform. It's the kind of environment where my teaching philosophy—Clear Paths, Deep Practice—can truly flourish.
I'm Brenna Marin, and for over 20 years, yoga has been my anchor, my teacher, and my path home to myself. Whether you're in Buffalo, Clarence, Amherst, Williamsville, Tonawanda, or anywhere in Western New York, I invite you into that same transformative journey—one breath, one intentional movement, one dharma talk at a time.
My Journey: How Art History, Metalsmithing & Over 20 Years of Practice Shaped My Teaching
Before I became a yoga teacher, I was an artisan metalsmith. My hands shaped raw materials into refined beauty—taking something unruly and making it elegant without losing its essential nature. That approach—elegance with a touch of the unruly—still informs how I practice and teach.
The Winding Path to Teaching
I hold a degree in Art History with a focus on Religious Studies. My path through college wandered from psychology to geology before landing in art history—and each turn taught me something essential. The psychology gave me insight into the human experience. The geology connected me to Earth's patient transformation. The art history taught me to see beauty in detail, pattern, and meaning.
My Qualifications & Training:
- RYT-500 Yoga Teacher Training (2025)
- Over 20 years of dedicated personal practice
- Extensive study in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, and Restorative yoga
- Religious Studies focus on Eastern philosophy and contemplative traditions
- Ongoing education in anatomy, neuroscience, and somatic healing
- Training in trauma-informed teaching approaches
What Yoga Has Given Me (And What I Give My Students)
I came to yoga over 20 years ago searching for something I couldn't name. What I found was:
- Mental health support through my darkest times—yoga held me when nothing else could
- Embodiment—learning to inhabit my body with strength and capability, not just criticism
- Discipline with spaciousness—structure that creates freedom, not restriction
- Spiritual awakening—experiencing the oneness that philosophy books could only describe
- A bridge—connecting Western science, Eastern wisdom, and the natural world
Now, I offer these same gifts to my students. But I don't ask them to take my word for it—I show them, through clear instruction and embodied practice, how to discover it for themselves.
Why I Love Teaching at Flex Yoga Buffalo (And What You'll Find in My Classes)
Currently, you'll find my public classes at Flex Yoga Buffalo, a space I'm grateful to teach in. Every teacher brings their own gifts to their practice—different styles, different emphases, different ways of holding space. That variety is part of what makes a studio vibrant.
What I bring to my classes is this:
1. Boutique Setting, Personal Attention
Flex Yoga Buffalo isn't a factory-style gym yoga room. It's an intimate, thoughtfully designed space in Clarence, just outside Buffalo, where I learn your name, remember your shoulder injury, and notice when you're working through something difficult. Class sizes allow for individual attention without losing the energy of group practice.
2. Thoughtful Use of Heat
The studio at Flex uses infrared heating panels. Some classes are fully heated yoga (temperatures vary by class and instructor preference), while others use the panels at lower settings for gentle warmth. The heat, when used, encourages your muscles to soften and supports deeper exploration—serving the practice, not the ego.
3. Philosophy Meets Practice
Every single class I teach includes a dharma talk—a brief teaching that connects ancient Sanskrit philosophy to the week's peak pose and your daily life. You'll learn concepts like ahimsa (non-harming), tapas (disciplined transformation), and santosha (contentment), then immediately practice them through movement.
What "Clear Paths, Deep Practice" Really Means:
This is my teaching philosophy in four words. You get:
- Clear Paths: Detailed alignment cues, anatomical precision, step-by-step progressions you can follow
- Deep Practice: Weekly themes, philosophical integration, breath awareness, mindfulness that extends beyond the mat
You'll never wonder what to do. And you'll always understand why you're doing it.
4. All Bodies, All Levels Welcome
I offer modifications without hierarchy. Using props isn't "beginner"—it often reflects a deeper understanding of yourself and the practice. Flexibility doesn't equal advancement. Skipping a pose isn't weakness—it's wisdom. Whether you've practiced for 20 years or 20 minutes, you belong in my classes.
5. Community, Not Competition
The community at Flex Yoga Buffalo is warm, welcoming, and genuinely supportive. In my classes, we're not performing for Instagram. We're practicing. Learning. Breathing. Growing. Together.
What to Expect in My Classes at Flex Yoga Buffalo
Heated Vinyasa Yoga: Intelligent Sequencing for Every Body
My Heated Vinyasa classes are the cornerstone of what I offer—and where you'll experience vinyasa yoga in Buffalo with a difference.
What Makes It Different:
Each 60-minute class is built around a peak pose—the posture we're working toward throughout the practice. This isn't always an advanced or challenging pose; it's simply the focal point that gives purpose to everything else we do. Every pose leading up to it has a relationship to the peak, creating an intentional progression.
When we arrive at the peak pose, we break it down in a mini-workshop format—exploring alignment, understanding ourselves in the shape, and deepening our relationship to the practice itself.
You Can Expect:
- Breath comes first - Every movement is linked to inhale or exhale
- Progressive preparation - We practice the key actions in simpler poses first
- Multiple pathways - You choose the variation that serves your body today
- Integration time - Pauses to feel what you've created, not just rush to the next pose
In Every Class:
- ✓ Alignment cues grounded in anatomy ("externally rotate your thigh" + why that matters)
- ✓ Options for every pose (blocks, straps, wall support, different variations)
- ✓ Dharma woven throughout (philosophy tied to the peak pose and daily life)
- ✓ Music that supports (not dominates) the practice
- ✓ Permission to rest, modify, or skip anything that doesn't serve you
- ✓ Clear instruction you can actually follow—even with your eyes closed
- ✓ 60 minutes from arrival to closing
Ashta Power Fusion: Ashtanga-Inspired Flow for the Modern Practitioner
This class takes the structure and discipline of Ashtanga yoga and adapts it for accessibility—while honoring the transformative power of the traditional method.
What It Is:
Inspired by the Ashtanga half-primary series, this 60-minute class follows a set sequence you'll practice week after week. The repetition isn't boring—it's revelatory. When you know what's coming, you can go deeper into sensation, breath, and self-inquiry.
Why I've Modernized the Traditional Approach:
I deeply respect traditional Ashtanga practice. However, I've adapted this class to meet our community where they are—making this powerful method accessible to practitioners who might find the traditional Mysore room intimidating. If you're an experienced Ashtanga practitioner, you'll recognize the foundation and appreciate the integrity; if you're new to this style, you'll find it approachable without being diluted.
What Makes It Accessible:
- Music - Unlike traditional silent Ashtanga, we flow with carefully curated playlists
- Props welcomed - Blocks, straps, blankets (not traditional, but intelligent adaptation)
- Modifications demonstrated - I show you multiple options for every pose
- Explanations offered - Sanskrit + English, honoring the lineage while making it inclusive
- Permission to modify - If a pose doesn't serve you today, take the variation that does
- Heated environment - Warmth supports flexibility and focus (though traditional Ashtanga is practiced at room temperature)
Why Repetition Transforms:
When you practice the same sequence repeatedly:
- You stop worrying about what comes next and start feeling what is happening now
- You notice subtle changes week to week (stronger, more stable, breathing easier)
- Your body learns the pattern, freeing your mind to explore depth
- You build a sustainable personal practice you can do anywhere
Flex Fridays: Where Community, Creativity & Yoga Celebration Meet
Every Friday at 6pm, Flex Yoga Buffalo transforms. Flex Fridays are special themed classes and mini-events (almost always at regular class price, occasionally more for workshops) that bring our Buffalo yoga community together in playful, meaningful ways.
You'll often find me guiding these immersive experiences, whether it's a one-night pop-up or one of my signature ongoing series:
Inner Elements: An Ayurveda Series
Each offering in this trio aligns with the natural rhythm of seasons and Ayurveda's three doshas—Vata, Kapha, and Pitta. We explore living and practicing in balance with nature and the self, weaving practical philosophy with movement and breath.
This is yoga that asks: What does your body need in this season? What qualities want to emerge?
Cosmic Flow: An Astrology-Inspired Series
As the sun migrates through astrological signs, I create classes channeling each sign's qualities and questions—grounded Taurus, expansive Sagittarius, intuitive Pisces. Designed for astrology lovers and skeptics alike, these gatherings let you feel (not just study) how myth, archetype, and planetary rhythm show up in your body.
Special Pop-Ups Throughout the Year
Throughout the year, I also offer special pop-up classes and workshops—restorative sessions, lunar flows, breathwork intensives, and other creative explorations that bring depth and variety to the practice.
These Friday gatherings are where yoga becomes not just individual practice, but collective exploration.
